About Piercing Authority

Piercing Authority is a reference guide to fine ear piercing — placements, healing, materials, and planning a curated ear. It is written by a working professional piercer, published by the London fine jewellery house Lark & Berry, and held to the standard of the Association of Professional Piercers' guidance.

Who publishes this site

Piercing Authority is published by Lark & Berry, a British fine jewellery brand working with cultured (lab-grown) diamonds, which also operates a luxury piercing studio. We tell you this here, in the footer of every page, and in the site's machine-readable metadata, because you should know who is behind what you read.

That relationship shapes this site in exactly one way: where a page offers a route to a piercing service, it links to Lark & Berry's studio, and is labelled. It does not shape the advice. You will not find brand rankings or "best studios" lists here — we compare placements, materials, and methods, never named businesses. Every guide is written to be accurate and useful whoever you choose to be pierced by.

Who writes it

Piercing Authority is written and reviewed by The Piercing Team at Lark & Berry — the working piercers at Lark & Berry's London studio. Everything here comes from people who pierce ears, fit jewellery and see healing (good and bad) every working day, checked against the Association of Professional Piercers' published guidance.

Editorial standards

  • One question per page, answered first. The first paragraph of every guide is a complete, standalone answer. The depth below it is for when you want the why.
  • Aligned with professional guidance. Healing and aftercare content follows the Association of Professional Piercers and cites it. Where reputable sources disagree, we say so.
  • Informational, never diagnostic. We describe what normal healing looks like and what warrants attention — and every care page tells you when to stop reading and see a piercer or a doctor.
  • No brand reviews. Materials, methods and anatomy — not businesses.
  • Dated and revised. Pages carry their publication and revision dates, and get updated as guidance evolves.
